Summer Souvenirs in Procreate: A Relaxed Draw-Along Class

Summer drawing in Procreate doesn’t need a big plan. Sometimes you just want to put on some music, and draw small, happy things. That’s the idea behind Summer Souvenirs in Procreate: A Relaxed Draw-Along Session, a recorded live class where we draw charming summer motifs together, with no pressure and no perfect result expected!

Where to find it: the class is on Skillshare (new members get a free month through my link), and the recording is also part of the September bundle in The Sardine Club.

We work through three small motifs, one at a time, at a relaxed pace. These motifs are inspired by Madrid, Spain:

  • Motif I: Gilda
  • Motif II: Fan
  • Motif III: Balcony

Each one is a little souvenir of a summer day. You can copy mine exactly, or use the same steps to draw your own.

You don’t have to draw my souvenirs. Here is the approach behind them, so you can apply it to your own summer motifs:

    1. Pick three objects, not a scene. A fan, a glass, a doorway. Small, recognizable things work better than a whole landscape.
    2. Start with the silhouette. Block in the overall shape in one flat color first. If it reads well as a shape, the details will be easy.
    3. Limit your palette to five colors or fewer. A small palette makes a set of motifs look like they belong together. The colorpalette in the class will help you with this!
    4. Keep the motifs separate. Draw each one on its own layer so you can arrange them later as a pattern, a sticker sheet or a postcard.

If you’d like a head start on texture, the Mediterranean Toolkit brushes pair well with this kind of project.
